Austin City Lofts Arts Collaborative sponsored "Reinventing Icons", presented by Mexic-Arte Museum, through January 15, 2004 and "Women & Their Work: Off Site/On Target" from January 15 through March 5, 2004. The free exhibits are open to the public at the Austin City Lofts Marketing Center, located at 506 West Avenue (between 5th & 6th St.)
"Reinventing Icons" explored the ways artists use icons, images and symbols from popular and traditional Latino and Mexican culture, history and religions. The exhibit was separated into 11 sets of works displaying a sample of the icon reinvention practice. Among the artists featured were Mario Rendon, Sylvia Orozco, Nester Quiqones and local artist Michael Earney.
"Women & Their Work: Off Site/On Target" highlights the work of more than a dozen women who have exhibited at the Women & Their Work Gallery in the past.
"Austin City Lofts is pleased to sponsor the Arts Collaborative. We believe a vital arts community is important for downtown Austin, and is a vital part of downtown living," said Ron Cibulka of CLB Partners, developer of Austin City Lofts. |
